The both towns Rapperswil on the North bank and Pfäffikon on the South bank of the Lake Zurich are connected by a lake embankment. This embankment is used by a road as well as by a railway line, which connects the area near the Lake Constance from Kreuzlingen until St Gallen with the Central Switzerland. The lake embankment is a classical hideaway of the "Schweizerische Südostbahn" (Swiss South-East railway), which connects Rapperswil with Arth-Goldau at the northern end of the Gotthard line.

Rüti ZH is located some few kilometers in the north east of Rapperswil. There, the lines to Wetzikon (towards Zurich) and Bauma branch out. The track in the foreground, which contains a cog rail in the mid, represents a railway siding, coming from the Rüti ZH railway station and leading to a factory, from whose terrace this photo was made.
