Viaducts in the Vogtland

The surely most famous railway bridges from the Vogtland are the Elster valley viaduct in the north of Plauen (rightside picture) and the Göltzsch valley viaduct in the west of Reichenbach (leftside picture). Both viaducts are part of the railway line from Plauen to Zwickau via Reichenbach.

Additionally to the line above starting from the Plauen upper station, there is a further line from Plauen lower station, which directs to Greiz along the valley of the "White Elster". Both lines are crossing at Jocketa, whose railway station is immediately connected to the Elster valley viaduct. From there, one can walk along the "Brückenwanderweg" (bridge hiking trail) to the stopping place Barthmühle of the Elster valley railway line, which is only some few hundred meters away. In contrast to other views, which are very obstructed by the vegetation, there is a very nice panorama view from Barthmühle back to the viaduct (unfortunately, I had to accept backlight).

For making a panorama picture of the whole Göltzsch valley viaduct from the earth ground with free sight, it is not sufficient to use a light wide-angle lens (the picture below is composed from 2 photographies). The enormous dimensions become apparent when regarding photos made at close range.
